Audi A3 Electrical Gremlins Baffle Mechanics

My 2019 Audi A3 (gas, 111220km) keeps acting weird with unusual system failures. The warning lights come on and off out of nowhere, and the infotainment system sometimes just stops working or freezes completely. The malfunction indicator shows up occasionally too. Had it scanned with an OBD-II tool which showed multiple error codes. Took it to a mechanic but wasnt happy with their diagnosis. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their A3? What was the root cause and how did you fix it? Really need some advice before taking it back to a shop.

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Audi A3 owner reported unusual system failures, warning lights, and infotainment system issues, with multiple error codes identified through an OBD-II scan. A similar case with an Audi A4 suggested the root cause might be a corrupted control module communication due to damaged cable connections and moisture corrosion. The recommended solution involved a complete diagnostic scan, inspection, and replacement of the damaged cable harness, followed by system recalibration. The owner eventually resolved the issue at a specialized diagnostic center, confirming the problem was indeed related to corrupted communication in the control module system, leading to a successful repair and resolution of all electrical issues.

As an A4 2016 owner, I faced nearly identical symptoms last year. Multiple unusual system failures and warning lights pointed to a corrupted control module communication. The malfunction indicator would appear intermittently, especially during cold starts. The root cause was a damaged cable connection between the main control unit and the vehicle BUS system. Moisture had corroded the connection points, creating intermittent signal interruptions. This caused the engine diagnostics system to record multiple fault codes, similar to your situation. The service required was quite extensive since accessing the control module meant removing several components. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic system scan, Removal and inspection of the control module, Replacement of the damaged cable harness, System recalibration, Full testing of all affected systems This was a serious issue that needed immediate attention, as corrupted communication between control modules can affect various vehicle systems, including engine management and safety features. Your symptoms strongly suggest a similar underlying problem. When the BUS system loses connection, it typically causes exactly these unusual electronic glitches and system failures you described. Recommend having a specialized diagnostic shop examine the control module connections rather than a general repair shop.

Hey, just saw you had the same issue. I have an A3 2019 and this exact thing happened. The warning lights and unusual system failures had me worried sick. My service center did sort it out but I would love to know if you remember how much the repair cost? Mainly asking since my extended warranty is ending soon and I want to budget for potential future repairs. Also curious if you have experienced any other electrical problems since the fix? The engine diagnostics on mine showed pretty much the exact same symptoms you described. Has been running fine since the repair but always good to hear long-term experiences from others who went through this.

Since fixing the faulty cable connection to the BUS system, my A4 has run flawlessly with no warning signals or system failures. The repair cost me 155 Euro, which covered the complete diagnostic scan and repair work. The main issue was definitely the corrupted communication between the control modules, and once the connection was properly restored, all the unusual malfunctions stopped completely. The service required was worth every cent, as I have not experienced any electrical issues or warning light problems in the past year. The malfunction indicator has stayed off, and the infotainment system works perfectly now. If your vehicle is showing the same symptoms, getting it fixed before warranty expires is definitely a smart move, as these electronic system repairs can get costly. Just keep monitoring your vehicle for any new warning signals, but based on my experience, once the control unit connection is properly repaired, the problem should be permanently resolved.

Thanks for checking back! After dealing with those frustrating unusual system failures, I finally decided to take it to a specialized diagnostic center. The scan tool confirmed what you experienced, corrupted communication in the control module system. The repair cost came to 890 Euro total. They had to replace some corroded wiring and recalibrate multiple systems. Bit pricey but worth every cent since all those annoying malfunctions and warning lights completely stopped. The engine diagnostics now show everything running perfectly. Been about 3 months since the fix and no electrical issues at all. The infotainment system works smoothly and all those unusual system failures are gone. Really glad I dealt with it before my warranty expired. The malfunction indicator hasnt shown up once since the repair. Definitely recommend getting it checked if anyone else experiences similar symptoms. These control module issues only get worse if left unfixed.
