Audi A3 Washer System Failure Despite Full Reservoir

Thanks for the response. My mileage is at 121974 KM from the last service done 3 months ago. The pump makes a humming noise when activated, but no fluid comes out of the jets. I can confirm fluid is not reaching the spray jets at all, even though the fluid level in the reservoir is full. I regularly use quality washer fluid and change it every few months. No other warning lights are active besides the washer fluid warning light on the dashboard. Could the pump be the issue here since fluid isnt making it to the jets? Wondering if anyone has experience replacing the washer pump on these older A3 models and what the typical costs might be.

Having gone through this exact situation with my A4, I can tell you that the humming noise from the pump but no fluid output is a classic sign of a failed washer motor. In these older Audi models, the washer motor tends to wear out around the 120000 km mark. The humming sound you hear is likely the motor struggling but failing to generate enough pressure to push the fluid through the system. When my washer motor failed, it made the same symptoms, humming noise but no fluid from the spray jets. The good news is replacing the washer motor is a relatively simple fix. The part costs around 45 Euro and installation is straightforward. Since your wiper system shows similar symptoms to what I experienced, I recommend: 1. Verify all hoses are properly connected to the washer motor 2. Replace the washer motor 3. Clean the spray jets while you are at it 4. Use fresh washer fluid after installation The whole repair should take about an hour if you do it yourself. A shop will likely charge 1-2 hours labor. The warning light should clear once the new washer motor is properly functioning and fluid is flowing through the windshield cleaning system again.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Seems the washer motor is indeed the likely culprit here, especially given my mileage matches when these typically fail. Looking at the parts costs and labor time you mentioned, this repair sounds reasonable enough to tackle. Since I already confirmed the hoses are connected and the spray jets are clear, I will order a new washer motor and try installing it myself first. One last question, when replacing the washer motor, do I need to do any system programming or coding after installation to clear the dashboard light, or will it reset automatically once the new motor is working? Just want to make sure I have all the info before starting the repair.

I had a similar issue with my Audi A4 1.8T from 2002. Having some experience working on these cars, I can tell you these wiper system problems are fairly common in this model range. For me, the dashboard light kept showing low washer fluid despite having a full tank. After inspecting the windshield washer system, my workshop found that the level sensor was faulty, causing false readings. They also discovered that the spray jets were clogged with mineral deposits from using poor quality washer fluid. The fix was straightforward, they cleaned the spray jets and replaced the washer fluid level sensor. Total cost was 25 Euro for parts and labor. The warning light disappeared immediately after the repair. Before suggesting specific fixes for your A3, could you provide: Does the pump make any sound when you try to spray? Have you checked if washer fluid is actually reaching the spray jets? When did you last change the washer fluid? Are there any other warning lights active? These details would help determine if you are facing the same issue I had or if there might be a different problem with your wiper system.
