Audi A4 Oil Pressure Warning Points to Faulty Sensor

My Audi A4 2008 diesel (84500km) has been acting up lately with oil-related warning lights. The oil pressure warning keeps coming on, plus theres a stored error code. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, but the symptoms point to a possible oil temperature sensor issue. Has anyone dealt with similar warning lights and sensor problems on their A4? Really need to know if this requires immediate attention and what repair costs I should expect. Already checked the oil level and its fine.

The oil temperature sensor issue matches what happened with my Audi A6 2011 2.0 TDI. The car diagnostics revealed similar symptoms, unusual oil pressure warnings despite normal oil levels. The root cause was a faulty temp sensor connection. The wiring harness near the sensor had deteriorated, causing intermittent signal issues. This triggered false oil pressure warnings and stored error codes in the engine control unit. While not immediately dangerous if oil levels are good, its best to address this soon. A failing sensor can mask real oil pressure problems. The repair involves replacing the oil temperature sensor assembly and checking the surrounding wiring harness for damage. The job requires removing some engine components to access the sensor location. In my case, there was also corrosion at the connector plug that needed cleaning. The whole repair took about 3 hours at the workshop. Consider getting a second opinion and having a proper car diagnostics scan done. Ask specifically about checking the temp sensor wiring and connections before replacing parts. The error codes should point directly to the faulty component.

Thanks for sharing that detailed experience with your A6. The symptoms you described are exactly what Im dealing with. Its reassuring to know the temperature sensor was the culprit in your case rather than a major oil system issue. Did you remember roughly how much the repair cost in the end? Also wondering if youve had any repeat issues with the oil gauge or warning lights since getting it fixed? I might need to start calling workshops for quotes on replacing the oil temp sensor. Really hoping its just the sensor and not something more complex with the wiring harness.

Had the repair done last week actually, all warning lights are completely gone now. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed a faulty engine oil temperature sensor causing those unusual warnings. Just like I suspected, the issue stemmed from a damaged cable connection to the sensor. The final bill came to 95 Euro for fixing the connection, way less than I initially feared. The engine sensor repair was straightforward once they properly diagnosed the problem. No more false readings on the oil gauge since then. Looking back, getting that second opinion saved me from unnecessary part replacements. The engine temperature readings are now stable and accurate. Much better experience with this workshop compared to my previous attempts to fix it. Best part is no warning lights have popped up since the repair. The car sensor system is working exactly as it should now. If your symptoms match what I described, you might be looking at a similar straightforward fix.

Finally got it sorted! After reading about your experience, I took my A4 to a different workshop that specializes in engine diagnostics. The car sensor readings confirmed it was the oil temperature sensor acting up, just like in your case. The total repair came to 120 Euro, slightly more than yours since they had to replace both the sensor and a section of damaged wiring. The mechanic showed me the corroded connector, which explained all those unusual oil gauge warnings. The whole job took about 2 hours. They ran a complete engine sensor check afterward to make sure everything was communicating properly. Its been a week now, and no warning lights have appeared since. The oil pressure readings are staying steady, and the engine temperature gauge is working normally again. Really glad I switched mechanics. This new shop took the time to properly diagnose the issue instead of jumping to expensive replacements. Just wanted to close the loop and let you know your advice helped point me in the right direction.
