Thanks for sharing that experience. I had very similar light sensor and auto wiper problems with my A4 last winter. The moisture damage to the sensor cluster you described matches what my mechanic found. Just got it fixed last month with the full windshield removal and sensor replacement procedure. Did you remember roughly what the total repair cost was for your job? Mine came to 1200 Euro for parts and labor. Also curious if youve had any other sensor fault codes or electronic issues pop up since the repair?

Following up on your questions, I paid around 62 Euro specifically for fixing the bubbles under the gel pad. The rain sensor and light sensor systems have worked flawlessly since the repair. No more fault codes or sensor calibration issues with any of the electronics. The moisture problem causing sensor failures is quite common on these models. Getting the gel pad replaced properly was key, the new adhesive creates a much better seal than the original factory application. The auto wipers now react perfectly to rain and the other affected systems are back to normal. The total repair cost you mentioned sounds about right given all the work involved with removing the windshield and replacing the full sensor cluster. The investment was worth it for restoring proper functionality of these important safety features.

Thanks for the helpful info. Just wanted to close the loop on my repair experience. Took it to a certified shop that specializes in European car electronics. The malfunctioning sensor diagnosis was spot on, they found extensive moisture damage under the gel pad affecting multiple systems. The repair took about 6 hours total. They had to remove the windshield, clean everything thoroughly, install a new sensor cluster with updated adhesive, and recalibrate all systems. Total cost was 1200 Euro which included parts and labor. Been about 4 weeks since the fix and everything is working perfectly now. The auto wipers respond correctly to rain, headlights switch automatically as they should, and no more sensor fault codes showing up on scans. The shop explained that the new adhesive compound they used creates a much better moisture seal than the original, so hopefully this prevents any repeat sensor issues down the road.

Had this exact sensor calibration issue on my 2014 Audi A6 3.0 TFSI. The root cause was moisture getting under the gel pad that houses multiple car electronics and sensors near the rearview mirror mount. The rain detection system completely failed along with other sensor functions. The fix required complete removal of the windshield to properly replace the malfunctioning sensor unit and gel pad assembly. This is a known weak point where the original adhesive deteriorates over time. When bubbles form under the pad, it disrupts communication between car components and their respective control modules. The repair involved: Full windshield removal, Cleaning of the mounting surface, Installation of new sensor cluster, Fresh gel pad application, Recalibration of all affected systems This is considered a serious repair as it affects multiple safety systems. The job requires specialized knowledge since the windshield must be perfectly clean and the new components precisely positioned for proper sensor function. Shortcuts like trying to reuse the old gel pad or attempting repairs without removing the glass typically lead to recurring issues. The symptoms match perfectly with moisture intrusion affecting the main sensor cluster. Would strongly recommend having this addressed at a shop familiar with Audi sensor calibration procedures.
