Audi A5 Diesel 2013: Symptoms and possible causes of engine problems

Hey guys! I have a small problem with my 2013 Audi A5 Diesel, which has already done 276543 km. Check engine light is on, engine turns off by itself, has longer cold start time and power loss. The engine shakes when starting and the car jerks when accelerating. Sometimes it won't start at all. I've already had a bad experience at the mechanic and my head is spinning... I think the fault may lie with the fuel pump. Have any of you had experiences with similar problems and can give me tips on what to expect from the mechanic? Would be very grateful for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Audi A5 Diesel is experiencing engine problems, including the check engine light being on, the engine turning off unexpectedly, longer cold start times, power loss, engine shaking during start, and jerking during acceleration. The owner suspects the fuel pump might be the issue. A similar case with an Audi A3 involved incorrect software values for the fuel pump, which were resolved by resetting and recalibrating the pump. It is suggested to have the fuel pump checked and software values corrected to potentially resolve the issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, your problem reminds me of difficulties I recently had with my 2010 Audi A3. It does sound a lot like a problem with the fuel pump. On my car, the software values for the pump were incorrect, which led to erratic performance and symptoms similar to yours. It was quite annoying and actually kept me busy for some time. The mechanic had to reset the software values and recalibrate the pump to get everything back to normal. It took a while, but since then my A3 has been running like a champ again. It was definitely a serious problem, but luckily it was fixed. So if you go to the mechanic, that's the first thing I'd have checked. And don't worry, these problems happen, and most of the time they can be solved!

Hey, thanks for the reply! It sounds really reassuring that you've been through the same thing before and the problem was solved. Do you happen to remember the price you paid for the repair? And has there been anything new with your A3 since then or is everything running smoothly?

Hey, no problem! I paid €45 to have the software values of the fuel pump corrected. Since the mechanic carried out the repair, my Audi A3 has been running smoothly again. So, the defect in the fuel pump was successfully rectified. So, don't worry about it. These things do happen, but as I said, they can usually be fixed! So far, everything is tip-top and running perfectly.

Wow, thank you very much for the information! That helps me a lot and reassures me. I think I'll take my Audi to the garage now and have the fuel pump checked. Otherwise it will run like a charm for a while from now on, ha ha! I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again for your help!
