Audi A7 Infotainment System Dead After 141K km

Just got back from my mechanic with concerning issues on my 2023 Audi A7 (141534 km, gasoline). The infotainment system shows error messages and no audio output at all. The mechanic found stored error codes but wasnt very helpful explaining the cause. Could this be related to a faulty FM signal or antenna ground connection? Has anyone experienced similar problems with their infotainment system? Looking for advice before going to another mechanic, as my last visit wasnt very satisfying. What should I check first, maybe an antenna booster or other vehicle electronics?

Had similar issues with my 2020 Audi A5 last season. The radio interference and poor signal started gradually, then the infotainment system completely stopped working. The root cause was indeed a defective antenna ground connection. These symptoms are typical for Audi models from this generation. The antenna wire harness can develop micro-cracks in the insulation, leading to signal degradation and system errors. The fix required: Complete antenna assembly replacement, New ground wire installation, System module reset, Infotainment software update This was classified as a serious electrical issue since it can affect other vehicle systems that rely on the antenna, including GPS and emergency services connectivity. Before visiting another mechanic: 1. Check if all fuses related to radio/infotainment are intact 2. Verify if the FM signal issues occur in different locations 3. Note if the problem gets worse during wet weather 4. Document when system error messages appear A qualified Audi technician should be able to diagnose this using proper diagnostic equipment. The antenna ground and connection problems often trigger multiple error codes that need professional interpretation.

Thanks for the detailed response regarding the infotainment issues. My static noise and FM signal problems turned out exactly as you described. The antenna ground connection was completely corroded, causing all those error messages. Quick question, do you remember roughly what you paid for the complete repair? Also wondering if youve had any recurring static noise or poor signal quality since the fix?

Just got my Audi A5 back from the repair shop last month and can confirm the repair fixed all signal issues completely. The total bill came to 255 Euro for replacing the defective antenna and ground connection components. No static noise or poor signal problems since then, the radio reception is crystal clear now. The signal amplifier and all related vehicle electronics are working perfectly. The investment was worth it since I was really frustrated with the constant interference before. The mechanic installed a new antenna booster unit as part of the fix, which has notably improved the overall reception quality compared to before the problems started. The sound system is actually performing better than ever. If your symptoms match what I experienced, getting it properly fixed by a qualified technician is definitely the way to go rather than trying temporary solutions.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help. Finally got my A7 back from a different mechanic who actually knew what he was doing. The repair cost was 320 Euro which included a new antenna assembly and ground wire installation. The mechanic found severe corrosion affecting the antenna booster connection, causing the poor signal and static noise issues. After replacing the damaged components and updating the vehicle electronics, everything works perfectly now. No more error messages or audio problems. The sound quality is actually better than before and the signal strength remains stable even in areas where I previously had reception issues. Really relieved to have this fixed properly after my disappointing first mechanic visit. Static noise and FM interference are completely gone. Much better experience with this second mechanic who took the time to explain the actual problem and show me the corroded parts. Worth every cent compared to the frustration of dealing with a malfunctioning system.
