Audi Q2 Oil Pressure Warning + Engine Noise Concerns

Having trouble with my 2022 Audi Q2. The oil pressure warning lamp started flashing while driving, followed by concerning mechanical noises from the engine. The engine oil was changed recently and levels are good, but I suspect low oil pressure might be the culprit. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Particularly interested in knowing if it turned out to be a clogged oil filter, oil pump failure, or faulty oil pressure sensor. Would appreciate hearing about repair experiences and what the actual problem was in your case. Want to be well-informed before taking it to the shop.

Had a similar issue with my 2020 Audi Q3 last summer. Have some experience working on cars, but this was definitely a job for professionals. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I experienced, warning light and those worrying engine noises. Initially thought it might be the oil pressure sensor, but it turned out to be a complete oil pump failure. The low oil pressure was causing significant strain on the engine. Got it fixed at a workshop where they: 1. Diagnosed the failing oil pump 2. Replaced the oil pump assembly 3. Installed new gaskets 4. Changed the oil and filter 5. Ran comprehensive pressure tests Total cost was 755 Euro for parts and labor. The repair was absolutely necessary, low oil pressure can cause severe engine damage if not addressed quickly. Before suggesting more specific advice, could you share: Current mileage on your Q2? Type of oil viscosity being used? Any oil leakage visible under the car? When exactly was the last oil change done? Are there any other warning lights showing? This info would help determine if your situation is similar to what I experienced and whether you might be facing the same oil pump issues.

Thanks for sharing your experience. For reference, my Q2 has 129660 KM on the odometer and had its last service just 3 weeks ago. The symptoms do sound identical to what you experienced. I checked underneath and found no oil leaks, which makes me more suspicious of either a clogged oil filter or oil pump failure. The engine bearings are making a distinct knocking sound that wasnt there before. Getting it towed to avoid any further engine damage. Will update once I know the cause.

Thanks for the update. Those symptoms, especially the knocking sound from the engine bearings, are very concerning and match my experience perfectly. Getting it towed was absolutely the right call, I learned the hard way that driving with low oil pressure can destroy engine bearings within minutes. In my case, the oil pump failure was causing insufficient oil flow to critical engine components. The knocking sound you mentioned is typically a clear indicator that engine bearings are already being affected by the low oil pressure. My repair ended up being more extensive than initially planned because I drove for about 10 minutes after the warning came on. They had to replace: Oil pump, Main engine bearings, Various seals and gaskets Total repair came to 2350 Euro, significantly more than if caught earlier. The damaged engine bearings really drove up the cost. With your mileage being similar to what mine was (I was at 125000 KM), and given the identical symptoms, I strongly suspect you are dealing with the same oil pump failure I experienced. Make sure to mention the knocking sound to your mechanic, it will help them diagnose the issue faster. Would be interested to hear what they find. The fact you had recent service work might also be relevant, sometimes issues can develop if the oil filter isnt installed correctly.

My Q2 is back from the shop and the diagnosis matched your experience exactly, it was indeed the oil pump that failed. The mechanic found metal particles in the oil, indicating some bearing damage had already occurred, but thankfully not as extensive as in your case since I stopped driving immediately. The total repair came to 1850 Euro which included: New oil pump assembly, Oil pressure sensor replacement, Complete oil change with filter, Minor bearing repairs, Various seals and gaskets Learning from your experience helped me avoid more serious engine damage. The knocking sound was indeed from the bearings getting insufficient lubrication due to low oil pressure. The oil pressure gauge readings are now back to normal and the engine runs smoothly with no concerning noises. The mechanic mentioned the recent oil change was unrelated to the pump failure, apparently just coincidental timing. They also performed a thorough check of the entire oil system to prevent any future issues.
