Audi Q2 Parking Assist Failure, Common Control Issue

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I just had my service done at 104777 KM two weeks ago. The failure occurred suddenly while parking at a store, with no previous warning signs. The rearview camera still works fine, but all parking sensors and automated parking features are completely dead. The error message shows fault code B138A, which points to the rear obstacle detection system. No recent work was done on the bumpers and I only use touchless car washes. Based on your experience, I will have the wiring connections checked first before replacing any components.

Thanks for providing those additional details about your Q2. It sounds quite different from my Q3 case, especially given the specific fault code and the sudden failure right after service. While my issue developed gradually over time, yours seems more like a potential service-related problem. The fact that your parking assist system failed shortly after maintenance strongly suggests someone might have accidentally disturbed or damaged the wiring connections during the service work. Unlike my loose connections that developed naturally, yours might be directly related to recent maintenance activities. The parking sensors and related wiring harness are particularly vulnerable during certain service procedures. Based on the fault code B138A in combination with completely unresponsive parking assist and radar sensors, I would specifically ask the workshop to: Check all wiring connections that were near any service work areas, Inspect the central control module connections, Test the power supply to the parking assist system, Verify all sensor connections in the rear bumper My repair was straightforward because the issue developed over time. In your case, I would go back to the service center that performed the recent maintenance, as they should check this under warranty if their work caused the problem. Could save you the 95 Euro I had to pay for my repair.

Thanks for the advice on checking the wiring connections first. After reading about your experience, I contacted my service center and they acknowledged seeing several similar cases. I scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. They will first inspect all connections that might have been disturbed during the recent service work. The proximity sensors and obstacle detection system apparently share some wiring with other components they accessed during maintenance. The service advisor mentioned they had a case last month where faulty wiring caused similar symptoms after routine service work. The control module showed the same error code as mine. Since the rearview camera still functions normally, they agree its likely not a major system failure. They estimated about 2 hours for diagnosis and repair if its just wiring-related, which aligns with your repair time. They also agreed to check it under warranty since the issue occurred right after service. Will update once they diagnose the exact cause. Hopefully its just loose connections like in your case rather than a more expensive control module replacement.

Had a very similar issue with my 2017 Audi Q3. The parking sensors and blind spot sensors completely failed, showing the same symptoms. As someone with some hands-on experience maintaining cars, I first thought it might be a major control module failure. Took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a relatively simple issue, faulty wiring connections to the proximity sensors. Some cables had worked loose over time, causing intermittent failures before complete system shutdown. The repair involved reconnecting and securing the wiring harness properly, plus cleaning the connector pins. Total repair cost was 95 Euro and took about 2 hours to complete. Much better than replacing the entire control module or parking sensors, which was my initial worry. To better assist with your Q2 issue: Have you noticed any gradual deterioration or was it a sudden failure? Did you recently have any work done near the bumpers or undergo a car wash? Are you getting any specific error codes? This would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced or potentially something different.
