Audi Q8 Audio System Goes Dead, Fix Required

My 2021 Audi Q8s audio system suddenly stopped working completely. No sound output from any source, radio, USB audio, or phone connection. Volume control appears responsive on the display but there is zero audio coming through any speakers. The sound quality was perfect until yesterday. Already checked fuses and did a system reset but no change. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their Q8 and what was the fix? Particularly interested in hearing about workshop diagnoses and repair solutions.

As someone with moderate experience working on Audis, I had a very similar issue with my 2019 Audi Q7. The car speakers suddenly went silent despite the head unit appearing to function normally. After checking basic connectivity and doing system resets like you did, I took it to a workshop. The diagnosis revealed that the bass speaker in the front door had failed and was causing a short in the audio system, triggering a safety cutoff for the entire sound system. The auxiliary input and USB audio connections were also affected by this. The repair involved replacing the defective speaker and running a system diagnostic to reset the audio module. Total cost was 280 Euro, including parts and labor. The sound system has worked flawlessly since the repair. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Whether you hear any slight buzzing or crackling when turning the system on, If the issue started suddenly or developed gradually, Whether your Q8 has the standard sound system or premium audio package, If any warning messages appeared before the audio failed This information would help determine if youre facing the same speaker issue or possibly something different in your audio connectivity setup.

Thanks for the detailed response. My Q8 has 60908 KM on the clock since the last service, and I can confirm there is absolutely no buzzing or crackling, just complete radio silence. The premium sound system died instantly while driving, with no warning messages or gradual deterioration in sound quality. The audio connectivity appears normal on the display, showing track names and volume adjustments, but the car speakers remain completely dead regardless of input source. Going to schedule a workshop visit since this seems beyond basic troubleshooting.

Thanks for those extra details about your Q8. The symptoms you describe are nearly identical to what I experienced, especially the sudden complete radio silence while driving with no warning signs. The fact that your display shows normal audio connectivity but produces zero sound output through the car speakers matches my case exactly. Since your vehicle also has the premium sound system like mine did, there is a good chance you are dealing with the same speaker fault that triggers the safety shutdown. The audio module in these premium systems is programmed to cut all sound output if it detects potential electrical issues that could damage the amplifier. Based on the mileage you mentioned, this timing for speaker failure is quite typical. The service techs who fixed mine explained that the premium sound system speakers can develop issues around 55000-65000 KM. Getting it properly diagnosed at the workshop is definitely the right move. If it turns out to be the same speaker problem, they will likely need to: 1. Run a full diagnostic on the Bluetooth issue and audio connectivity 2. Test each speaker individually 3. Replace any faulty speaker components 4. Reset the audio module The repair cost should be similar to what I paid, assuming its the same root cause. Would recommend having them check the entire USB audio connection while they are at it, just to rule out any other potential issues.

Thanks for your insightful troubleshooting suggestions. After getting my Q8 checked at the workshop today, you were absolutely right. They found a failed speaker in the front passenger door that was causing the entire sound system shutdown. The diagnostic revealed the same safety cutoff issue you mentioned, the system detected the speaker fault and disabled all audio output to protect the amplifier. The Bluetooth issue and USB audio problems were just symptoms of this main speaker failure. Total repair came to 295 Euro, which included replacing the defective speaker, running full diagnostics, and resetting the audio module. The sound quality is now back to perfect across all sources, whether playing through Bluetooth, radio, or USB audio connection. Really appreciate the detailed explanation of the likely cause. It helped me communicate the issue clearly to the workshop and understand what they were doing to fix the sound distortion problem. The car is now working exactly as it should.
