Audi Q8 Oil Pressure Warning + Suspicious Engine Noises

Looking for advice, my 2022 Audi Q8 (gasoline, 47886km) started making concerning engine noises today along with the oil pressure warning light. Had some bad work done at my last mechanic visit and worried about low oil pressure causing engine damage. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? The noise gets worse during acceleration. Really want to avoid another bad mechanic experience, so any tips on what to check or reliable fixes would be great.

I faced similar symptoms with my 2019 Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI last winter. The oil pressure warning combined with engine noise during acceleration strongly indicates oil pump failure. In my case, the engine bearings were already showing wear due to insufficient oil circulation. The repair required removing the oil pan to access and replace the faulty oil pump. During inspection, metal particles were found in the oil, indicating early bearing damage. The repair included: Complete oil pump replacement, New oil filter installation, Engine bearing inspection and replacement, Full system flush, Oil change with correct oil viscosity This is a serious issue requiring immediate attention. Continuing to drive with low oil pressure can cause catastrophic engine damage. When the oil pump fails, engine bearings receive inadequate lubrication, leading to rapid wear and potential engine failure. The warning signs you describe match classic oil pump failure symptoms. Have the vehicle towed to prevent further damage. Ensure the shop performs a complete diagnostic check of the oil delivery system, including pressure testing. A clogged oil filter could also contribute to these symptoms, but given the warning light, the pump is the likely culprit.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the oil pump failure. Your case sounds very similar to what I am dealing with now. The oil pressure gauge also started fluctuating before the warning light came on in my Q8. Did the repair fully resolve the issues or did you notice any lingering problems afterward? Would be great to know the approximate cost too, this kind of information really helps when dealing with repair shops to avoid getting overcharged. I am particularly concerned since I noticed some oil leakage spots on my garage floor recently. Not sure if this could be related to the low oil pressure situation or if its a separate issue that just happened to occur at the same time.

Thanks for asking about the repair outcome. Happy to report that after replacing the faulty oil pump, all issues were completely resolved. The engine oil pressure returned to normal levels and those worrying noises disappeared entirely. The full repair came to 755 Euro which included labor and parts. The oil leakage you noticed could definitely be connected to the low oil pressure problem. When oil pumps start failing, they can cause irregular pressure that stresses seals and gaskets, leading to oil leakage. A proper inspection will show if these issues are related. My engine has been running smoothly for months now with no lingering problems. The oil pressure stays consistent, and the engine bearings showed no additional wear during the last service check. The repair shop did a thorough job checking for any clogged oil filter issues and potential damage to other components. Just make sure your mechanic does a complete system inspection. While the oil pump was the main problem in both our cases, its worth checking the entire oil circulation system to prevent future issues.

Finally got my Q8 back from the shop yesterday after dealing with the oil pressure issues. Turns out you were spot on, it was indeed the oil pump that failed. The total repair came to 890 Euro, a bit more than your case since they found a clogged oil filter that needed replacement too. The mechanic I found specialized in European vehicles and did a really thorough job. They pressure tested the entire system and showed me the metal particles they found in the engine oil. Those weird noises during acceleration are completely gone now, and the oil pressure gauge shows steady normal readings. The oil leaks I noticed were actually from a worn gasket that got stressed due to the pressure fluctuations. They fixed that while they were at it. Been driving it for a day now and everything feels smooth, no more warning lights or concerning sounds. Really glad I caught this early before it caused serious engine damage.
