Audi RS7 Wiper Switch Failure: Quick Diagnostic Guide

Looking for advice on my 2017 RS7 with recurring wiper issues. Car wipers stopped working completely and error message popped up on the dashboard. Already suspect the wiper switch since all other electrical systems work fine. Previous mechanic visit for a different issue left me skeptical about going back. Anyone dealt with similar wiper motor problems on these models? Car has 183561km on the clock and runs on gas. Need recommendations on common causes and potential fixes before heading to a shop.

Had the same problem on my 2014 RS5. The car wipers failed during heavy rain, zero response from controls. Initially suspected the wiper motor, but diagnostic testing revealed a failing connection in the steering column wiring harness that also affected the turn signal intermittently. Root cause turned out to be corroded terminals where the wiper switch connects to the main wiring harness. The connection degradation happens gradually, which explains why many owners first notice issues during heavy rain when more power is needed. The repair required partial disassembly of the steering column to access and replace the affected wiring harness section. While common on these models, its definitely a serious repair that requires specific diagnostic equipment and expertise with Audi electrical systems. Would strongly recommend having this checked by a certified shop. If left unaddressed, moisture can spread through the wiring harness and potentially affect other systems like cruise control. The connector design was actually revised in later production runs to prevent this issue.

Really appreciate the detailed response! This sounds exactly like my situation, especially the part about issues being more noticeable in heavy rain. The rain sensor seems completely dead now too. Did you end up getting the full wiring harness replaced or just the connector section? Hoping I can avoid complete steering column disassembly if possible. Also wondering approximately how much the repair cost you and if youve had any wiper blade or electrical problems since the fix? Its reassuring to hear this is a known issue. Was planning to try a local shop but might look for an Audi specialist given the electrical diagnosis needed.

Thanks for following up. After getting it properly diagnosed, it turned out exactly like you suspected, just the connection point needed fixing, not the entire wiring harness. The rain sensor started working again once they restored proper connectivity. The repair came to 95 Euro total, which covered fixing the faulty cable connection in the steering column area. Since the fix 8 months ago, the windshield wipers have worked flawlessly in all weather conditions, and no other electrical gremlins have shown up. The technician mentioned this wiring harness connection point is a common failure area on these models. They were able to access and repair it without complete steering column disassembly, which kept labor costs reasonable. The cruise control and other steering wheel functions all work perfectly now too. Was really glad I went with a specialist who knew these specific issues rather than trying a general repair shop. Getting the exact problem diagnosed correctly the first time saved money in the long run by avoiding unnecessary parts replacement.

Thanks for the input. Finally got the repair done last week and wanted to share my experience. Took it to a certified specialist who knew exactly what to check after I mentioned the symptoms. Diagnosis confirmed the wiring harness connection issue near the steering column. The tech showed me the corroded connector that was causing the windshield wipers to fail. Total repair cost was 120 Euro, mainly labor since they only needed to replace the connector section rather than the entire wiring harness. The job took about 2 hours and theyaged to fix it without completely dismantling the steering column. All electrical systems including the turn signal and rain sensor are working perfectly now. Really glad I went with a specialist rather than attempting a DIY fix or using a general repair shop. Best part is the wiper switch and motor were actually fine, saving me from unnecessary parts replacement. Will definitely keep an eye on any future electrical issues, but for now, everything is working as it should.
