Audi S8 Oil Warning Nightmare: Real Issue or Sensor?

Having trouble with multiple warning lights on my 2010 Audi S8 (155k km, gas engine). The oil pressure warning keeps coming on, plus several error messages in the dash. My mechanic previously told me it might be a faulty sensor related to oil pressure, but I am not fully convinced. Has anyone experienced similar automotive oil warnings? Pretty worried about potential engine damage if its more than just a sensor issue. Looking for experiences and trustworthy mechanic recommendations before I spend a fortune on repairs.

Had the exact same oil monitoring alerts on my 2013 Audi S6. The oil pressure warning combined with multiple dash errors pointed to a wiring harness problem rather than an actual oil pressure issue. The fault was traced to corroded connections at the oil detection sensor plug. The wire insulation had deteriorated, causing intermittent signal problems between the sensor and the ECU. What appears as a serious oil pressure problem often turns out to be a faulty sensor connection. The repair involved replacing the entire sensor wiring harness plus the oil pressure sensor unit. While labor-intensive due to tight access, this resolved all warning lights and error messages. This repair was much better than initially feared engine damage. A proper diagnostic scan showed the sensor issue was sending incorrect data to the ECU. The old sensor readings were completely unreliable due to the damaged wiring. Would strongly suggest getting a full diagnostic scan before assuming major engine problems. Key point: When automotive oil warnings appear with multiple other errors, its often an electrical or sensor issue rather than actual oil pressure problems.

Thanks for your detailed response about the S6 oil sensor problem. This sounds very similar to my situation and gives me hope its not a major engine issue. Can you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? Also wondering if youve had any recurring issues since getting it fixed? The oil monitoring system on my S8 is still triggering warnings, so Im planning to get it properly diagnosed soon. Your experience with the wiring harness problem is really helpful to know about.

Just got the work completed last week, the car maintenance bill was 95 Euro to repair a compromised connection at the oil level sensor. The mechanic found the sensor issue was exactly what I suspected, a damaged wire connection causing faulty signals to the control unit. Since fixing the cable connection, all oil gauge warnings have completely disappeared. The repair was much simpler and cheaper than initially expected, mainly involving reconnecting and securing the sensor wiring properly. No recurring issues with the oil signal or any other warning lights since the fix. My earlier repair experience with the complete harness replacement was actually unnecessary, wish I had known then that checking the basic connections could solve the faulty sensor readings. Sometimes the simplest fix is the right one when dealing with sensor problems. For reference, the diagnostic scan confirmed it was purely an electrical connection problem rather than any actual oil pressure concerns. The repair shop did a thorough check of the entire oil monitoring system just to be certain.

Finally got the car checked out last week. Was really relieved to find it wasnt major engine trouble. The mechanic found corroded wiring near the oil pressure sensor causing all those warning lights. Only paid 280 Euro for the full repair, which included cleaning the connections and replacing one damaged section of the wiring harness. The car maintenance turned out way simpler than expected. No more oil signal warnings or dash errors since the fix. The mechanic also ran a complete system check to make sure there werent any actual oil pressure problems. Your advice about getting the proper diagnostic scan first definitely saved me from unnecessary repairs. Just wanted to update and thank you, its running perfectly now. The faulty sensor issue was exactly what you described. Really glad I didnt panic and assume the worst about engine damage.
