Audi Sunblind System Failure: Fix Guide & Costs

Having issues with my 2018 Audi S1 sun blind system. The sun visor mechanism is completely stuck in one position and wont move either way. The interior accessory error message shows up in the system. Before taking it to a workshop, has anyone dealt with a similar problem? Would be great to hear your experiences with repairs and approximate costs. Already checked the fuse but that seems fine. Any insights on whether this is typically a mechanical or electrical issue?

I had a similar issue with my 2016 Audi A1. The car sunshade got stuck and displayed the same error message. Having some experience with basic car maintenance, I first tried the usual checks like fuse inspection and manual reset attempts. The window visor system turned out to have a faulty motor mechanism. After attempting basic troubleshooting, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a defective sunshade motor unit. The repair involved replacing the entire motor assembly, which came to 330 Euro including labor. The sunshade repair was completed in about 3 hours. Since then, the system has worked flawlessly. This seems to be a relatively common issue in this model range. Can you share some additional details about your S1: Did the problem develop gradually or suddenly? Are you hearing any unusual sounds when trying to operate the sun visor? Does the car interior temperature warning system still work properly? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced and could guide you toward the most effective solution.

Thanks for the detailed insight. The issue occurred suddenly without warning during normal operation. No unusual sounds from the sun visor mechanism, it just stopped responding completely. The car interior temperature system works fine and no other electrical problems noticed. My Audi S1 had its last service at 65000 KM with no issues reported. Currently at 71397 KM and this is the first problem with any interior accessory system. Will try the manual reset procedure you mentioned before booking a workshop appointment. A 330 Euro repair cost seems reasonable if it solves the problem completely.

Your case sounds exactly like what I experienced with my A1. Since you mentioned it happened suddenly without other electrical issues, this strengthens my suspicion that its the motor unit. The fact that your car interior systems are working normally also matches my experience. The manual reset I tried involved holding the sunshade button in both directions for 10 seconds each, but it didnt resolve the issue. Looking back, this was mainly to rule out a simple electronic glitch before heading to the workshop. When my car sunshade failed, I initially hesitated to get it repaired, thinking it wasnt essential. However, I noticed significant heat buildup without proper UV protection, especially during sunny weather. The workshop confirmed that these motor units rarely fail partially, when they go, they need complete replacement. The 330 Euro I paid included: New motor assembly, Labor costs, System recalibration For your mileage, this is a typical maintenance requirement. The repair should provide years of reliable sun protection for your car interior. Just make sure the workshop uses original parts for the replacement.

Thanks again for sharing your experience. After trying the manual reset you suggested, holding for 10 seconds in each direction, the sunshade system is still completely stuck. Given how similar our situations sound, especially with the sudden failure and lack of other electrical issues, I guess I'll be looking at a motor unit replacement too. I've noticed the same issue with heat buildup you mentioned. Without proper UV protection from the sunshade, the car interior gets uncomfortably warm even on mild days. The window visor being stuck in one position really impacts comfort. I'll book it into the workshop next week. The 330 Euro estimate gives me a good baseline for what to expect cost-wise. Will make sure they use original parts for the sunshade repair job. Better to get it fixed properly now than risk further issues or interior damage from excessive sun exposure. Good to know this is a typical maintenance item at this mileage. Thanks for helping me understand what I'm dealing with. Will update once it's fixed.
