Auris dashboard lights issue

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2012 Toyota Auris diesel. The dashboard lights are acting up – sometimes they're dim, sometimes they're bright, and sometimes they just don't come on at all. The headlights themselves seem to switch on okay, but it's like the dimmer switch is possessed! I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. I even have an error stored. Any ideas before I start pulling the dashboard apart?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my old Vauxhall Astra. Turned out to be a dodgy connection in the headlight switch. Did you check the cable or plug connection of the component?

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say dodgy connection, do you mean loose, or corroded, or something else? And was it easy to get to the switch in your Astra, or did you have to dismantle half the dash?

In my case, it was a combination of loose and slightly corroded. I just cleaned everything up with some electrical contact cleaner and tightened the connection. It was a pain to get to, but not too bad. Honestly, though, given that you have an error stored, it might be worth getting a professional to take a look. Could save you a lot of hassle.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I think I'll book it in at the workshop. The repair ended up costing 95€. At least now everything is working as it should.
