Avalon ABS lamp issue

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2017 Toyota Avalon hybrid. I've got 108013 km on it, and the ABS lamp keeps lighting up. I'm also experiencing traction problems and it seems the ABS system is failing intermittently. I suspect it might be related to a faulty control unit affecting the speed signal. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I checked for obvious sensor damage, but found nothing.

I had a similar issue with my Avalon. The symptoms you're describing are spot on. Did you check the input from the ABS sensors to the ECM (Engine Control Module)? The ECM uses that signal for a number of systems including the odometer, traction control and ABS. A bad signal can cause all sorts of issues.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'input from the ABS sensors', are you referring to the wiring harness or the sensors themselves? I'm wondering if it's something I can check with a multimeter or if I need specialized equipment. Any particular points I should focus on?

Yes, I was referring to the wiring harness and the signal they carry. While you could check the wiring for continuity with a multimeter, diagnosing the actual signal requires a scan tool that can read ABS sensor data. It might be beyond a simple DIY fix. Based on your symptoms, it could also be the ABS control unit itself failing. It's probably best to take it to a workshop. This ended up costing me around 1000€ to have fixed.

Appreciate the insight! Sounds like I'm in over my head with this one. I'll take it to a trusted mechanic and have them diagnose the ABS control unit and sensor signals. Thanks for confirming my suspicions and the heads-up on the potential repair cost.
