Avalon clutch switch errors

My 2008 Toyota Avalon with a gasoline engine is throwing up some weird errors. It has 43455 km on the clock. The error memory has a code stored that points to the clutch pedal switch, and the gear selection display on the speedometer isn't working. Cruise control is dead too, and sometimes it won't even start. I'm thinking a bad connection or plug on the switch itself. Anyone seen anything like this?

Hey, sounds familiar. I drive an Avalon too, though not sure what year… I had very similar issues a while back. The no-start thing is scary, right? Check the wiring around the clutch switch very carefully. Mine had a loose connector that was causing all sorts of mayhem. Worth a look before you start replacing parts.

Cheers. When you had the loose connector, did that throw any specific codes, or was it just all the same symptoms? Trying to narrow this down before I start ripping the dash apart.

I honestly can't remember the exact code now, it was a while back, but the symptoms were pretty much identical: no cruise, gear selector blank, and the random no-start. If you can wiggle the connector and recreate the fault, that pretty much confirms it. If you aren't comfortable to do it yourself, just go to a decent workshop. It's not a big job anyway.

Thanks for the heads-up. Ended up being a corroded connector, just like you said. Cleaned it up, cost me 95€ at the shop, and it's running like new. Appreciate the help!
