Avalon Hands-Free Microphone Failure

I'm pulling my hair out! My 2003 Toyota Avalon with a gasoline engine has a dead hands-free microphone. Telephony is impossible. I scanned it and there's an infotainment system error stored. Probably a defective unit. Anyone else run into this? Any thoughts before I tear things apart or go to the dealership?

I had a similar problem with my Avalon, though mine's a bit newer. The voice recognition just stopped working. Did you check the Bluetooth connection to your phone? Sometimes a simple re-pairing does the trick.

I tried re-pairing the phone, deleting and recreating the profile, even tried a different phone. No dice. I'm starting to think it's not Bluetooth, but something deeper. Did yours throw any error codes, or was it just a silent failure?

Mine was a silent failure at first, but after a while, it started throwing codes too. Honestly, after messing with it for a couple of days, I just took it to the shop. They confirmed it was the infotainment unit itself. Not cheap, but at least it's fixed now.

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Sounds like I'm heading for a similar fate. Thanks for the heads-up! Looks like I'll be budgeting around 815€ for a new infotainment system. I appreciate the info; it saved me from wasting more time troubleshooting!
