Avancier starting issue
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Honda Avancier with a gasoline engine was experiencing starting issues, suspected to be due to an engine control malfunction. Initial checks revealed loose battery cable connections, which were identified as a potential cause. After cleaning and tightening the battery connections, the problem was resolved, confirming that the issue was indeed related to the battery connection rather than a more complex engine control failure.

I did give them a quick clean, but maybe I wasn't thorough enough. You mentioned corrosion – where exactly should I be looking? Was the problem with your Opel consistent, or did it come and go?

The corrosion was mainly around the positive terminal on my Astra. It was a bit intermittent at first, then became more consistent. Given the age of your Avancier, I'd strongly suggest a thorough inspection of all battery connections. If that doesn't solve it, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop for engine diagnostics; it might be an ECU failure or a fuel injection issue.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out you were spot on. Took it to a shop, and it was indeed a bad connection at the battery. Cleaned everything up and tightened it, and she's running like a charm. Cost me 155€ for the diagnostics and cleaning. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra. The engine would crank, but wouldn't fire up. It turned out to be a bad connection at the battery terminal. Have you tried cleaning the terminals and tightening the connections? Also, check for any corrosion.
