Avantime Brake Booster Pressure Sensor Failure

My 2003 Renault Avantime with a gasoline engine is throwing up errors. I'm getting an error message on the speedometer, and the braking feels less effective. The reader shows a brake booster pressure sensor failure. Mileage is 150482 km. I suspect a brake system bleed issue, maybe done incorrectly? Seen similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Renault Avantime is experiencing brake issues, with an error message indicating a brake booster pressure sensor failure. The braking feels less effective, and the owner suspects an incorrect brake system bleed might be the cause. A similar case suggested that improper bleeding could introduce air into the system, affecting the hydraulic brakes and damaging the sensor. The solution involved replacing the faulty sensor and correctly bleeding the brake system, resolving the issue.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Saab 9-3. Same symptoms, spooky error message and spongy brakes. Did the error code specifically point to the pressure sensor? My mechanic mentioned something about the hydraulic brakes misbehaving when there's air in the system. Is your ABS light on too?

The error code is definitely pointing towards the brake booster pressure sensor. No ABS light, thankfully. You mentioned air in the system causing hydraulic brake issues... was that the root cause in your case? Trying to understand how one thing led to another...

After numerous frustrated hours, I concluded that the brake booster sensor needed replacing by a professional after a mishap during bleeding. The master cylinder needed some love, too. If you're uncertain about bleeding the brakes yourself, I'd seriously recommend taking it to a workshop. It’s a safety issue!

Cheers for the advice! Took it to a local workshop, and they confirmed your hunch. The brake system hadn't been bled properly, which buggered the sensor. New sensor fitted (90€ all in), system bled correctly, and all is well... for now!
