Avantime diesel fuel pump connection issue

Help! My 2003 Renault Avantime diesel is playing up. 95085 km on the clock. It just won't start sometimes, or stalls when idling. The check engine light is on, and it runs really rough when it does run. I'm also burning through fuel like crazy! Had the error codes read, and it points to the fuel pump. Could it just be a dodgy connection?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Avantime – though it wasn't diesel. Check the cable and plug connections to the fuel pump, that was the culprit in my case. A defective cable connection can cause the engine to stall at idle because the fuel pump isn't getting enough power.

Thanks! Where exactly is the fuel pump located? And is it easy to get to the cable and plug? Don't want to mess anything else up!

Honestly, it's a bit of a pain to get to without proper tools. And if you're not familiar with car electrics, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a workshop. They can diagnose the problem properly and fix it. Could save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

Cheers! You were spot on! Took it to a mechanic, and it was indeed a faulty connection to the fuel pump. New plug and wiring, and it's running like a dream. Cost me 95€ all in. Thanks again!
