Avantime driver side seat heating failure
Summary of the thread
The driver's side seat heating in a 2003 Renault Avantime has failed, with an error code indicating a problem. The issue is likely due to a faulty heating mat, as the passenger seat heating still functions. While checking fuses is advised, the heating mat's replacement involves removing and dismantling the seat, which is complex due to airbags and electronics. Professional repair is recommended for safety and efficiency.

Good shout! Yeah, the passenger side is toasty warm. I suspected the mat, but wasn't sure. So, if it's the mat, is it a big job to replace? I mean, is it a DIY thing or am I looking at a professional repair?

Okay, if the passenger side is working, you can almost certainly rule out the control unit itself. Replacing the mat isn't the easiest job, as you'll need to remove the seat and dismantle it to get to the heating element. Given the airbags and electronics involved, unless you're really confident, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop.

Thanks a million! I suspected as much. Workshop it is! Got a quote for around 390€, so I'll bite the bullet. At least I know what the problem is now - faulty seat heating mat it is!

I had a similar issue with my Avantime! Does the passenger seat still get warm? If so, it's almost certainly the heating mat in the seat itself. They're notorious for failing. Have you checked the fuses, just to be absolutely sure?
