Avantime Key Fob Battery Issues

I'm writing about my 2002 Renault Avantime diesel. I'm getting a 'key battery low' warning and the keyless access isn't working. There's also an error code and the central locking is acting up. Could a dead key fob battery cause all this? The car has 191559 km on it.

Sounds like a flat fob battery indeed. It's like trying to start a fire with damp wood - you might get a flicker, but no sustained flame. Have you tried replacing the battery in the key fob yet?

No, I haven't replaced the battery yet. I was curious if a minor issue could cause all these symptoms. Is it really that straightforward, or could there be other factors considering that error code?

While I can't rule out gremlins entirely without a full diagnostic, a dead key fob battery causing all those issues in an Avantime is about as common as finding croissants in a French bakery. Replacing the battery is definitely the first, cheapest, and statistically most likely solution before you delve into deeper, costlier investigations. If the issue persists after a new battery, then a workshop visit is advisable.

I appreciate your insights. I replaced the key fob battery. A new battery cost 37€, and that seems to have solved the problem. Everything seems to be working fine again. Thank you for confirming my suspicions and preventing unnecessary complications.
