Thank you for your insight. Could you elaborate on the symptoms you experienced specifically related to the lambda sensor? Was the exhaust leak also present in your situation?

Okay, so the engine was definitely jerky, especially at lower speeds. As for the exhaust leak, no, I didn't have that. Given the leak and the smell, plus the sensor issue, you really should get it checked out by a workshop. Could be a damaged exhaust pipe as well.

I appreciate the confirmation and the advice. I have taken the vehicle to a workshop. The defective lambda sensor was indeed the primary cause, which also damaged the catalytic converter. The total repair cost was 375€.

Sounds familiar! I had something similar with my Avensis (don't remember the exact year model). Engine light, rough running, the works. Have you checked your lambda sensors? That was the culprit in my case. Though my exhaust smell wasn't that strong, maybe your catalytic converter is also involved?
