Avensis Undervoltage Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Toyota Avensis is experiencing an undervoltage issue, leading to poor starts, flickering lights, and intermittent system failures. The initial suspicion is a defective battery, but a faulty battery terminal is also considered a potential cause. After consulting with another owner who had similar issues, the problem is confirmed to be a defective battery, which is resolved by replacing it at a workshop.

Could you elaborate on 'voltage drop across the battery terminals'? How did you approach the problem? Did you also have any system failures?

I also had some intermittent system failures. I never got around to troubleshooting myself. I brought it to a workshop, and they found the battery was defective. I recommend you do the same.

Based on your advice, I took my Avensis to a workshop. The battery was indeed the problem. The total repair cost was 290€. Thanks for sharing your experience; it saved me time and effort!

I have a similar issue with my Avensis, including weak starts and flickering lights. Have you checked the voltage drop across the battery terminals when starting? It might indicate a problem with the battery's health or the alternator. I would also check the power supply.
