Aveo Automatic Gearbox Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Chevrolet Aveo diesel is experiencing issues with the automatic gearbox, indicated by the check engine light and transmission indicator, along with poor shifting, slipping, and grinding noises. The problem is suspected to be related to the torque converter, specifically the lock-up clutch, which can cause engine surges and gear hunting. The recommended solution is to have the torque converter checked and potentially replaced at a workshop, as this was a similar issue resolved for another Aveo owner.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Engine surge... yeah, sometimes feels like it's hunting for the right gear, especially on the highway. Lock-up clutch... that sounds expensive. I don't have the exact error codes at hand right now, but what was the eventual cause of your issue, and the repair costs?

That surge is a classic sign. My issue turned out to be a defective automatic transmission converter, specifically the torque converter. It was throwing all sorts of errors related to the lock-up clutch. Best to get it checked out at a trusted workshop. I had to pay 2120€ for parts and labor, but it solved the problem.

Ugh, 2120€... not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the heads-up! Dropped it off at the workshop this morning, and they confirmed it's the torque converter. Looks like I'm in for it. Appreciate the help!

I had something similar happen with my Aveo. Were you experiencing any engine surge or issues when the torque converter was supposed to lock up? It sounds like it could be related to the lock-up clutch in the automatic transmission's torque converter. What error codes are you getting?
