Aveo Glow Plug Issue

My 2006 Chevrolet Aveo, diesel engine, is playing up. 86k on the clock. The preheating lamp refuses to switch off, and there's an error stored. I'm guessing it's a glow plug issue. Anyone had similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Chevrolet Aveo with a diesel engine is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp staying on and an error code, suggesting a glow plug problem. The symptoms include rough idle during cold starts, which is indicative of glow plug failure. To diagnose, checking the resistance of each glow plug with a multimeter is recommended, with a good glow plug typically showing resistance below 1 ohm. The issue was confirmed and resolved by replacing the faulty glow plugs at a professional workshop.

Given those symptoms – preheating lamp staying on and error code pointing that way – a defective glow plug is highly probable. To confirm, use a multimeter to check the resistance of each glow plug. A significantly higher or lower resistance than specified indicates a faulty plug. Did you experience any difficulty starting the engine when cold before the lamp started to stay on?

OK, multimeter it is then. So, what resistance am I looking for roughly? And yes, actually, I had a tiny bit of a rough idle on a couple of cold starts just before this all kicked off. Is that significant?

A rough idle on cold starts is a classic symptom of glow plug failure, especially in diesel engines. The exact resistance will vary, but typically a good glow plug will measure a very low resistance, usually below 1 ohm. An open circuit (infinite resistance) or very high resistance means it's definitely toast. Considering the symptoms, and the rough starts, I strongly advise you to have it inspected by a professional workshop.

Appreciate the confirmation. I took it to a shop; you were spot on. Glow plugs were bad. 440€ later and it's sorted. Thanks for the advice!
