Avventura Hissing Sound Air Leak
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Fiat Avventura with a gasoline engine is experiencing poor fuel economy, a check engine light, and a loud hissing sound during acceleration, suggesting an air intake leak. The problem is likely due to a leak in the air intake system, possibly from a cracked or loose intake hose. Checking and replacing the faulty intake hose resolved the issue, improving fuel economy and eliminating the hissing sound.

Volvo, huh? Interesting. I'll definitely check the intake hose, but where exactly should I be looking? Any tips for spotting a small leak?

On the Volvo, the leak was in a vacuum hose connected to the intake manifold. Given your symptoms, I'd suggest checking all hoses connected to the air intake system, including the one running from the air filter. Honestly, given the mileage and symptoms, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop for proper leak detection. Could be a split hose or something more complex.

Thanks a bunch for the insight! I had a mechanic check it out and you were spot on. Turns out it was a leaking intake hose! Replaced it and all is good now. Cost me around 100€, which is not bad at all!

That sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old Volvo V70. Higher fuel consumption and hissing pointed me to a leak in the air intake system. Have you checked the intake hose for any cracks or loose connections? It's a common failure point.
