Aygo automatic transmission issue

Hi, I've got a 2006 Toyota Aygo diesel with about 43910 km on the clock. Recently, I've been having trouble starting it. The check engine light is on, and it seems to be related to the automatic transmission. Sometimes the gearbox slips, and it shifts pretty rough. I scanned it and there's an error code stored, pointing towards a problem with the parking position. Could a defective control unit be the culprit here?

Sounds like a potential transmission issue, yeah. Does it only happen when the car is supposed to be in park, or does it affect other gears too? Have you checked the gear linkage at all?

It mainly happens when starting, so it seems to be linked to the parking position. Once it's running, the slipping and rough shifting occur in other gears as well. I haven't checked the gear linkage itself yet, where exactly should I be looking?

Okay, if it's affecting multiple gears, and the error code points to the parking position, it's likely more than just a simple linkage issue. Given the error code, it does sound like that control unit is failing. Might be best to get it checked out by a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right - the control unit for the automatic transmission was defective. Ended up costing me about 1000€ to replace. Appreciate the help!
