Aygo diesel power loss

My 2005 Toyota Aygo diesel is giving me grief. Warning light, loss of power, and plumes of smoke when I accelerate. It's done nearly 200,000 km. The exhaust stinks and OBD data shows exhaust back pressure too low, so I'm thinking the exhaust back pressure sensor is defective. Anyone seen DPF issues on these?

I had something similar with my old Renault Clio diesel: warning light and power loss. Have you checked the sensor connections and wiring? A loose connection can act like a faulty sensor.

Thanks, I glanced at the connections, but I'll check again more closely. Was the power loss as bad with your Clio, and did you have smoke or smell anything?

The power loss was significant, and there was a distinct odor, but no smoke. Given your symptoms, getting it checked by a workshop might be wise.

Thanks for the advice. Turns out the exhaust back pressure sensor was defective, like I thought. Replaced it at a local garage for 245€, and the Aygo runs great again. No warning lights, power's back, and the exhaust smells normal. Crisis averted!
