Aygo engine refusing to start

Hi, I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2018 Toyota Aygo (gasoline engine). It has 44121 km on the clock. Sometimes the engine just refuses to start. Other times, it cuts out while running, and occasionally runs very rough. I suspected a fuse issue, specifically with the ignition system, but I can't find any defective fuses. I've checked the starter motor relay too. Any ideas?

Hey, I had similar issues on my Aygo. Symptoms sound identical. Have you checked the ignition coil? That was the culprit in my case. I know it sounds simple, but it might be worth a look. Does it happen more when the engine is cold or hot?

Thanks for the tip! The ignition coil... interesting. I haven't looked at that directly. The problem seems independent of engine temperature, but I could be wrong. Could you provide some more details on how your problem manifested itself?

Sure thing. Mine was intermittent at first, then became more frequent. Eventually, the car wouldn't start at all. I replaced the coil and it fixed the problem. However, given that it could be something else, I'd recommend a diagnostic check at a reputable workshop before throwing parts at it.

Thanks a lot for your help! I took it to the workshop, and you were right; it was indeed the ignition coil. Cost me 52€ to get it replaced. Runs like a charm now!
