Aygo Immobilizer Key Programming

Alright, petrolheads. My 2005 Toyota Aygo diesel is giving me fits. 169941 km on the clock. The immobilizer seems to have gone bonkers. The engine refuses to start, or sometimes it starts for a second, then dies immediately. I've scanned for codes and there's definitely an error related to the immobilizer stored in the memory. My gut feeling is it's a key programming issue. Anyone seen this before?

Greetings. Intermittent starting followed by immediate stalling and a stored immobilizer error strongly suggests a key/immobilizer synchronization problem. Does the security light on the dashboard behave normally, or is it flashing rapidly when you try to start the engine? Have you attempted using a spare key to rule out a faulty transponder in the primary key?

Good shout on the spare key, hadn't thought of that! The security light does flash rapidly when it won't start, solid when it does the brief start. If it IS the key programming, is there any way to DIY this, or am I looking at specialist equipment?

Given the rapid flashing security light and the error code, incorrect key programming appears to be the culprit. While some aftermarket tools claim to offer DIY key programming, successful reprogramming often requires specialized diagnostic equipment and access to the vehicle's security system. Due to the risk of further immobilizing the vehicle, I strongly suggest consulting a qualified workshop.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. Bit the bullet and took it to the shop. Turns out you were spot on - key programming was borked. 45€ later and she's purring like a kitten. Appreciate the advice!
