Aygo Overheating and Slow Warm Up

Help! My 2006 Toyota Aygo diesel is overheating like crazy. It's also taking ages to warm up, even with 106406 km on the clock. Could it be the thermostat? Water pump maybe? Anyone else had this?

Sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same thing happen with my Aygo. Overheating, slow to warm up... nightmare! Did you check if the cooling fan is kicking in properly? Could also be the thermostat housing, but those usually last a while. Is the water pump working?

Thanks for the quick reply! The cooling fan seems okay, but how do I check the water pump properly? And you really think it's the thermostat? It's just that I've heard they can be tricky on these engines.

Yeah, thermostat is the most likely culprit in my experience, especially with those symptoms. As for the water pump, listen for any weird noises or check for leaks, but honestly, it's hard to be 100% sure without taking it apart. I'd bite the bullet and take it to a garage if I were you, save yourself the headache. It might be the map thermostat. I ended up paying about 350€, which hurt, but solved the problem.

Okay, thanks a lot! Sounds like solid advice. I'll get it booked in for a check-up. Hopefully, it's just the thermostat and nothing more serious!
