Barchetta spongy brake pedal
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Fiat Barchetta owner experienced a spongy brake pedal and a brake fluid warning light. Initial checks revealed no obvious leaks, leading to concerns about potential underlying issues. A suggestion was made to inspect the brake pads, as worn pads can cause fluid levels to drop. Upon inspection, the pads were indeed worn out, and replacing them along with a fluid change resolved the problem.

Cheers! Good shout about the pads. How quickly did you notice the fluid dropping after that initial warning? Was it a 'top it up every week' kinda situation?

For me, it was gradual, but noticeable over a couple of weeks. I'd top it up a bit, then the light would flicker again after a few drives. Seriously, get those pads checked. If they are worn as I suspect, it's time for a change, otherwise you might damage your brake system.

Thanks so much for the heads-up! You nailed it - pads were shot. 480€ later and the brakes are sorted. New pads, fluid change, all good. Appreciate the help!

Hey! I had something similar happen on my Barchetta. Same weird brake pedal feel. Check your brake pad wear. If they're getting thin, the fluid level drops as the calipers compensate. Top up the fluid for now, but definitely investigate the pads!
