Summary of the thread
A 2001 Fiat Barchetta is experiencing throttle valve issues, leading to reduced engine power and a check engine light. The problem may stem from the accelerator pedal module or another electronic component. Cleaning the throttle body could address airflow issues, but given the symptoms, a professional diagnosis is recommended. Ultimately, the solution involved replacing the defective throttle valve.

The response delay is most noticeable when accelerating from a standstill. Does cleaning the throttle body typically resolve electronic issues related to the accelerator pedal module, or is it more applicable to general airflow problems?

Cleaning the throttle body is more for airflow issues. Since it's mainly from standstill, and you suspect the accelerator pedal module, it might be more serious. Honestly, with those symptoms on a 2001, and the check engine light on, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to properly diagnose the electronics. Could save you money in the long run.

I appreciate your input and I suspect you are correct. A visit to the workshop is unavoidable, it seems. The repair involved replacing the defective throttle valve at a cost of 265€. Thanks for confirming my fears and pointing me in the right direction!

That sounds like a pain. Is the response delay noticeable at all speeds, or just when you're trying to accelerate from a standstill? Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? Sometimes that can help with airflow issues.
