Black Exhaust Smoke and Performance Issues with 2014 Dacia Sandero: Seeking Advice and Experiences
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Dacia Sandero owner is experiencing black exhaust smoke, a persistent engine light, slow starts in cold weather, reduced power, jerking during acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and unusual exhaust smells. The suspected cause is a faulty fuel pressure sensor, but advice from another user suggests checking fuel cable connections and glow plugs, as similar symptoms were resolved by addressing these issues. The suggested solution involves inspecting and potentially replacing defective components to restore normal vehicle performance.

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience, it sounds like tried and tested advice. I didn't even think about the fuel cables and the glow plug, to be honest, I am such a rookie when it comes to auto mechanics. But I'm glad you also faced the same issues and managed to sort it all out. I'm curious tho, do you recall how much you ended up shelling out for the repairs? And once your vehicle was fixed, did any other issues related to this pop up afterward? I am just trying to prepare myself for what's coming. Thanks again for your help!

Hey there again, No worries, we're all learning as it comes, right? So, about those repair costs - if my memory serves me right, it was around 155€ for sorting out the cable connection issues. And as far as your other question goes, since the fix was done, I've been steering clear of similar problems. In fact, you were right on the money about the fuel pressure sensor. It was that beast playing up, but lucky for me, that got sorted out when I visited the mechanic. Ever since then, it's been smooth sailing, and the car's back to normal fuel consumption. All those bizarre smells, black smoke, and chugging are just memories now. Fingers crossed yours will be an easy fix too! Don't worry, you'll be back on the road in no time! Keep us updated, yeah?

Hey! That's super helpful to know, thanks for getting back to me. Honestly, it's a relief to hear that your problems didn't return after the repairs. It gives me hope that my Sandero will also hit the roads as good as new once it has been serviced. Those costs don't sound too bad either, so I guess I'll just roll up my sleeves and get it sorted. I'll definitely give an update once the mechanic has a look and the work is done. You've been a great help through this and I can't thank you enough! Take care and happy driving!

Hey there, It's funny you mentioned this because I had a similar issue with my 2011 Dacia Duster, diesel version. Faced the exact same symptoms: slow starts, black smoke, and an increase in fuel consumption too. Turned out, it was a problem with the fuel cable connections and a bad glow plug. Both can result in incomplete fuel burning, causing that black smoke and fuel inefficiency you mentioned. The poor acceleration and jerkiness definitely match my experience too. The issue wasn't a light one, but fixing it was straightforward. Mechanics had to replace the defective glow plug and rectify the cable connections. After the repair, the car ran just fine and I never experienced those problems again. Before heading to the mechanic, check the cable connections and glow plugs in your car, if you're able. It could be the same issue I had. Good luck, hoping your baby gets back in prime shape soon!
