Black smoke and loss of power in Corsa 2018: Possible malfunction in the boost pressure system

Hello everyone, I've recently started to worry about my Corsa (petrol engine, year 2018, 160135 km). When accelerating, the exhaust smokes black, the engine light flashes and the car hardly has any oomph. In addition, the engine runs unevenly, jerks and hisses when accelerating, stalls and vibrates at idling speed, plus a whistling noise. I suspect a malfunction in the boost pressure system. Have you ever had anything like this? How did it go at the mechanic? I wasn't exactly satisfied on my last visit. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Corsa is experiencing black smoke, loss of power, engine light flashing, uneven engine performance, jerking, hissing, stalling, vibrating at idle, and a whistling noise. These symptoms suggest a possible malfunction in the boost pressure system, potentially due to mechanical damage to the turbocharger. A similar issue in another vehicle required replacing the turbocharger, which resolved the problem and restored smooth operation. Prompt attention from a mechanic is advised to prevent further damage.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello, I had similar signs on my Astra (petrol engine, year 2015, around 120000 km). In my case, it was mechanical damage to the turbocharger. The symptoms were similar to yours, black smoke, bumpy engine, jerking, hissing and whistling. I had to replace my turbocharger with a new one. That was pretty serious, because a defective turbocharger can lead to serious engine problems. Remember to check it quickly to avoid further damage. I hope this helps you. Have a good trip!

Hey, thanks for your reply. That really sounds like it could be the same with my Corsa. Do you happen to remember what you paid for the repair? Has anything new come up since then or is everything running smoothly now? I just want to make sure I don't buy any more worries for the future. Thank you!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! Everything has been running perfectly with my Astra since the repair. Since the visit to the mechanic, the malfunction in the boost pressure system has been rectified and so far there have been no new problems. So it was definitely worth it. However, the cost of repairing the mechanical damage to the turbocharger was not without cost - I had to budget for €1070. But hey, the car is now running like clockwork again, and at least in that respect I now have peace of mind. I hope you feel the same!

Phew, that sounds like a lot of money, but of course I don't want my Corsa to see its last days. I think I really should take it to a mechanic before it gets worse. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I'm at least a little reassured that your Astra has been running well since the procedure. I hope I have the same luck. Thanks again, buddy!
