Blazer audio system dead

Hi, I'm having a weird audio issue with my 2001 Chevrolet Blazer (gasoline engine, 99806 km). The sound system is completely dead. No radio, no CD, nothing. The error memory has an error stored. The repair shop says the display is defective and wants 725€ to fix it. Has anyone else run into this?

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Chevrolet Blazer's audio system is completely non-functional, with no sound from the radio or CD player. The repair shop diagnosed a defective display and suggested a possible short in the wiring harness, quoting 725€ for the repair. After confirming the issue with another Blazer owner who experienced similar problems, it was concluded that the display unit was likely the cause. The repair was completed at the shop, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I've got a Blazer too, though I don't recall the exact year. I had a similar issue where the whole sound system just quit. Started with intermittent static, then silence. Did you check the fuses first? It might sound basic, but it's like checking if the power cord is plugged in before calling an electrician. Is it completely dead, or do you get any crackling or humming?

Thanks for the reply! I did check the fuses, and they seem fine. It's completely dead - no sound whatsoever. The shop also mentioned something about a possible short in the wiring harness behind the display, which would explain the stored error. Did your problem also involve the error memory?

Ah, okay, fuses are good, got it. Yes, mine was completely dead, and yes, there was an error code stored. From what you're describing, it's likely a bad display unit, which from the wiring harness issues, is not easy to fix by yourself. If the shop diagnosed a defective display and wiring issue, 725€ might be the going rate to deal with it.

Thanks for confirming! It sounds like I'm heading down the right (expensive) path. I appreciate the advice; it helped me feel more confident about letting the shop proceed with the repair. I got it fixed at the shop, seems that the defective display was causing the issues as expected.
