BMW 2 Diesel's Throttle Issues: Limp Mode Crisis Help

Hey all! My 2016 BMW 2 diesel is acting up. Engine power drops significantly, check engine light is on, and idle speed is unusually high. Car won't respond to the gas pedal and stays in limp mode. I suspect a faulty throttle valve might be the culprit. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear about your repair experience and workshop solutions before I take it in. Thanks in advance

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 BMW 1 Series diesel last year (I've got some experience working on cars, but nothing too fancy). Your symptoms sound exactly like what I went through with my car. It was super frustrating, especially that unresponsive gas pedal! Turned out the accelerator pedal module was faulty. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly with their diagnostic tools. The repair set me back about 265 Euro, including the part and labor, but it fixed the problem completely. No issues since then. Before jumping to conclusions, could you share: How many miles/kilometers on your car? Did this start suddenly or gradually? Any other warning lights besides the check engine? Happy to help more once I know these details. Just a word of caution, don't drive it too much in this condition. I learned the hard way that it's better to get it checked out sooner rather than later.

Thanks for your detailed response! My car's at 74527 KM and just had its service last month. The issue actually started quite suddenly, was driving normally one day, and boom, all these symptoms hit at once. No other warning lights showing up besides the check engine light. The accelerator pedal module issue you mentioned sounds interesting, the symptoms do match up pretty closely. The price seems reasonable too, especially if it sorts out the problem completely. Did your car also have that weird high idle when you experienced this? I'll take your advice and get it looked at soon. Definitely don't want to risk making things worse by pushing it too hard. Really appreciate you sharing your experience!

Hey again! Yes, my car definitely had that high idle issue too! It was super annoying, would sit there revving higher than normal even when I wasn't touching the pedal. Actually, that was one of the things that first tipped me off that something wasn't right, even before the check engine light came on. The fact that yours started suddenly, just like mine, and with the same combination of symptoms (high idle, power loss, and unresponsive pedal), makes me even more convinced it's probably the same issue. Especially since you've got similar mileage to what mine had when it happened. You know what's funny, I initially thought it was the throttle valve too! Spent a good hour reading up on that before taking it to the workshop. The mechanics had a good laugh when I shared my amateur diagnosis. But hey, these things can be tricky to diagnose without the proper tools. Just to add something I forgot to mention in my first reply, when they replaced my accelerator pedal module, the mechanic also did a quick system reset. Apparently, that's pretty important with these BMWs to make sure everything communicates properly after the repair. Keep us posted on what you find out! Always good to know if my experience helped someone else out.

Thanks so much for all this extra info! That's really reassuring to hear about the high idle being part of your symptoms too. I've been worried sick about potential major engine problems, but this sounds much more manageable. Funny you mention the system reset, I was actually reading about that last night! These modern cars with all their electronics, right? At least it's not as scary-expensive as I initially feared. I've already called a workshop and booked it in for tomorrow morning. Better safe than sorry, like you said. I actually feel a bit relieved now, knowing someone else went through the exact same thing and got it sorted without any major drama. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all the details of your experience. I was definitely going down the throttle valve rabbit hole too! I'll definitely update the thread once I get it checked out. Fingers crossed it's just the accelerator pedal module. Thanks again for all your help, it's great having a community to turn to for advice like this!
