Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got 103556 KM on my car and just had it serviced last month, but no AC checks were done. Haven't noticed any weird smells, but now that you mention it, there was a slight rattling noise a few days before it stopped working completely. I was hoping it wouldn't be such an expensive fix, but guess I better start preparing for a hit to my wallet! Did your workshop mention how long the repair took? I rely on my car for daily commutes, so trying to plan ahead.

Thanks for those details! Yes, the rattling noise is exactly what I experienced too before my AC gave up. When I heard that sound in my BMW, I initially ignored it (big mistake!), thinking it would go away on its own. From my experience, that rattling is often a sign of those valves starting to fail. In my case, the repair took about two full working days. My workshop had to order the parts, which took an extra day. But I was lucky they had a courtesy car available, definitely ask your workshop if they offer this service, it's a lifesaver when you need your car for daily commutes. One tip though, since you mentioned you just had it serviced last month, check your warranty coverage if you've got one. I kick myself for not checking mine initially. Found out later that some AC components were actually still under warranty, could've saved some cash there! By the way, did you try checking if the AC compressor engages when you turn on the system? In my case, I could hear it trying to engage but failing. Might be worth noting this when you take it to the workshop, helps them diagnose faster.

Thanks so much for all this helpful info! I just checked and you're right, I can hear the compressor trying but failing to properly engage. I'll definitely make a note of that for the workshop. And wow, I didn't even think about checking the warranty, that's brilliant! Just pulled out my paperwork and looks like I might still be covered for some AC components. That's such a relief! Two days for repairs isn't too bad, though I'll definitely ask about that courtesy car. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all these details and tips, you've saved me from walking into the workshop completely clueless! I'll probably book it in next week and hope for the best with those warranty claims. Thanks again for all your help!

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars, and I actually faced a similar issue with my 2020 BMW 3 Series diesel last summer (I also had a 4 Series before this one). The symptoms were exactly like yours, AC completely stopped working, wouldn't even turn on. Took it to my regular workshop and turned out there were faulty valves in the AC system that needed replacement. The whole thing set me back about 1000 Euro, but at least it's been working perfectly since then. Before you head to the workshop, could you share if you noticed any strange noises or weird smells before it stopped working? Also, when was the last time you had your AC serviced? These details might help narrow down if we're dealing with the same issue.
