BMW 2-Series Rough Idle Points to Injector Issues

Hey car enthusiasts, I've got a 2014 BMW 2 Series (gasoline) with about 195K km on the clock, and I'm suspecting a faulty fuel injector. The engine's running rough, especially at idle, struggling to start, and drinking way more fuel than usual. Power feels down too. Last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was your diagnosis and repair experience? Looking for recommendations on trusted mechanics who really know their way around BMW fuel injection systems. Thanks in advance!

I can relate to your situation. Had similar issues with my 2015 BMW 3 Series last year. The symptoms were identical, rough idle, hard starts, and poor fuel economy. Turned out my injection valves were quite dirty, causing uneven fuel spray patterns. The garage did a thorough ultrasonic cleaning of all injectors and replaced two that were beyond saving. They also checked the fuel pressure and cleaned the fuel rail while they were at it. It was a serious job that took a full day to complete, but well worth it. The car ran like new afterward, smooth idle, instant starts, and normal fuel consumption returned. The power difference was noticeable too. If you're experiencing these symptoms, don't wait too long. Dirty or faulty injectors can cause additional engine damage if left unchecked. Look for a shop that specializes in European cars and has proper diagnostic equipment for BMWs.

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your experience. That sounds exactly like what I'm going through with my car right now. I'm curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole injector cleaning and replacement job? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Let me know!

Hey! Happy to follow up about the injector work. After I posted here, I actually took my car in to get it fixed, good timing with your question! The total bill came to 515 € for fixing the faulty injection nozzle and cleaning the dirty valve. Money well spent if you ask me. Since getting it sorted, my 3 Series has been running like a dream, no more rough idle or starting issues, and fuel consumption is back to normal. It's been about 6 months now without a single problem. Really feels like I've got a different car! The power is back to what it should be, and that annoying stuttering at idle is completely gone. Honestly, I was kicking myself for not getting it done sooner. These injection issues can really mess with your engine if you leave them too long. Just make sure you find a good BMW specialist who knows what they're doing, makes all the difference in getting it fixed right the first time. Have you decided where you're going to take yours yet?

Thanks for the detailed follow-up! Actually, I bit the bullet and took my car to a mechanic last week. Had a completely different experience from my last repair shop visit, these guys really knew their stuff! They found two injectors that needed replacing and did a thorough cleaning of the others. Bill came to around 650 €, bit more than yours because of the two new injectors, but totally worth every penny. The car's running incredibly smooth now. That annoying rough idle is gone, and I'm getting way better fuel economy. Even my morning cold starts are perfect now! You were right about not waiting too long. The mechanic showed me how gunked up the old injectors were, pretty shocking stuff. Really glad I got it sorted before it caused any serious engine damage. Thanks again for sharing your experience, helped give me the push I needed to get it fixed properly!
