BMW 2D Battery & Power Issues, Alternator Warning Signs

Help needed, BMW 2 Diesel (2014) electrical issues and power loss Having issues with my BMW 2 Diesel. Engine power is down, battery won't charge, and warning lights are on. Lights are weak, car struggles to start, and there are error codes stored. I suspect it might be the generator/alternator. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Any tips on troubleshooting would be great.

Hey there! I've got some experience with cars and had a very similar issue with my 2012 BMW 1 Series diesel. The symptoms were exactly like yours, weak battery, starting problems, and power loss. Took it to my regular workshop and they diagnosed a faulty alternator/generator. Had it replaced and it set me back about 960 Euro, but it fixed all the electrical issues completely. The battery started charging properly again, and all those warning lights disappeared. I'd say this really sounds like your generator, but to be sure, could you share: What error codes you're getting? Did this start suddenly or gradually? Have you had any recent electrical work done? With these details, I could give you better insight based on what I went through with my car.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to know about the alternator fix. Mine is a 2014 BMW 2 with 48304 KM, and the problems started gradually over the past two weeks. The error codes are P0622 and P0562, which I got checked at a local auto parts store. Haven't had any electrical work done recently, just regular maintenance at the last service. Good to know the repair costs, helps me budget for what's coming. Think I'll get it checked out soon before it leaves me stranded somewhere!

Hey again! Yes, those error codes P0622 and P0562 are exactly what I saw on my BMW too! They're definitely related to the charging system, P0622 is "Generator Field/F Terminal Circuit" and P0562 is "System Voltage Low." When my alternator started failing, it also developed gradually over about 2-3 weeks before I got it fixed. Your mileage is actually lower than mine was, I had around 85000 KM when my alternator gave up. Just a heads up based on my experience, don't wait too long to get it fixed. I made that mistake and ended up getting stranded at night when the battery finally died completely. The repair took about 4-5 hours at my workshop, and they had to order the part which took an extra day. Quick tip that helped me limp along until the repair: I reduced the electrical load as much as possible (kept the AC, radio, and other electronics off) and took slightly longer trips to help maintain the battery charge. But honestly, this is just a temporary solution. Since you've got the same symptoms and error codes I had, I'm pretty confident it's your alternator. The cost I mentioned earlier included labor, but prices might have changed since I had mine done last year.

Thanks so much for confirming those error codes! Really puts my mind at ease knowing someone else went through the exact same thing. Great tip about reducing the electrical load, I'll definitely do that until I can get it fixed. Already called my mechanic and got an appointment for tomorrow morning. They said they can check the alternator first thing and order the part if needed. Better to deal with it now than risk getting stranded like you did! Really appreciate all your advice and sharing your experience. It's made me feel much more confident about what I'm dealing with. Thanks again for all the help!
