Thanks a ton for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to know that I'm not alone with this issue. I'm glad to hear you got yours sorted out properly. It's definitely put my mind at ease knowing it's likely the same problem. You're absolutely right about getting it fixed soon, safety first! Do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything stayed working properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks popping up?

Good to hear back from you! Yeah, I remember our chat about the belt issues. Actually, I got it all sorted at the mechanic, they confirmed it was exactly what I suspected, a bad belt tensioner. Got it fixed about two months ago and I'm happy to report it's been working perfectly since then! No more warning lights or belt problems. The total damage came to 455 € for replacing the defective belt bringer/handover unit. While it wasn't exactly cheap, I'd say it was worth every penny considering it's such an important safety feature. Plus, it's nice not having that annoying warning light staring at me anymore! Haven't noticed any other issues since the repair, everything's running smooth as butter. The mechanic did a proper job and I'm really satisfied with how it all turned out. Honestly, it works even better than it did before it started acting up. Let me know how you get on with yours!

Just wanted to update you on my BMW belt situation. Finally took it to a mechanic last week. They were actually really professional and knew exactly what they were dealing with. Like you said, it was the belt tensioner unit that needed replacing. What a relief, got it all sorted now! The repair cost me a bit more than yours, around 500 €, but honestly, it was worth every cent. The belt handover system is working perfectly again, just like new. No more warning lights on the dash either, which is such a nice change. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get it fixed instead of putting it off. Funny how we both had almost the same issue! The mechanic mentioned these problems are pretty common in our model years. Thanks again for all your help!

I actually faced the same issue with my 2004 BMW 5 Series diesel last winter. The belt handover arm completely stopped responding, and like yours, triggered the warning light. Initially thought it was just a sensor, but turned out the entire belt bringer mechanism was failing. Took it to a workshop where they found that the motor and the actuator in the handover system were worn out. These parts work together to extend and retract the arm that presents the seat belt. It wasn't just a quick fix, they had to replace the complete unit. While it wasn't the most complex repair job, it's definitely not something you'd want to DIY since it's a safety component. The repair was worth it though, the system's been working flawlessly since then. Given it's a safety feature, I'd suggest getting it fixed sooner rather than later. Try finding a workshop that specializes in German cars, they'll know exactly what to look for.
