BMW 4 Series Blower Motor Failure, Troubleshooting Help

Hey everyone! My 2018 BMW 4 series has stopped blowing air completely. The blower motor isn't working at all and I've got an error code stored in the system. I suspect it's the fresh air blower causing the issue. Has anyone dealt with a similar problem? Interested to hear about repair solutions and workshop experiences. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW 3 series last year. The blower completely died on me too, super annoying, especially during weather extremes. After checking basic stuff like fuses, I took it to my regular workshop and they confirmed it was a faulty blower motor. The repair took about 2 hours, cost me 365 Euro including parts and labor. They had to remove some dashboard components to access and replace the motor, but it's been working perfectly since then. What's your mileage and have you noticed any unusual sounds from the ventilation system before it died completely? Also, did you get the exact error code? These details would help to confirm if it's the same issue I faced.

Thanks for sharing your experience, My car's at 172778 KM and actually just had its service last month. Funny enough, I did notice a slight whirring noise from the vents about a week before it completely gave up, but didn't think much of it at the time. Haven't gotten around to pulling the exact error code yet, but planning to do that tomorrow. Really appreciate the cost breakdown, helps me budget for what's coming. Sounds like I'm in for a similar repair job as yours.

Hey again! Yeah, that whirring noise you mentioned sounds exactly like what I experienced before my blower died! I remember thinking it was just the usual ventilation sound getting a bit louder, but now I know better, it's definitely a warning sign. My car had around 155000 KM when it happened, so we're in a similar range. Just to share a bit more from my experience, after they replaced the blower motor, the mechanic showed me the old one and you could see the bearing was completely worn out, which explained that whirring sound. One tip I forgot to mention earlier: while they're in there replacing the blower motor, it's worth having them check the cabin air filter too. Mine was pretty clogged up and might have contributed to the motor's early failure. I got that replaced at the same time. Let us know what the error code shows when you pull it. But based on what you're describing, I'd bet good money it's the same issue I had. At least it's a straightforward fix, even if it's not exactly cheap!

, your advice has been super helpful! Just pulled the error code and you were spot on. It's definitely the blower motor. I've actually gone ahead and booked it in for repair tomorrow morning. Smart thinking about the cabin air filter, I'll definitely have them check that too while they're working on it. You know, it's funny how we ignore those little warning sounds until something completely fails. Lesson learned for next time! The whirring noise will definitely be something I pay attention to in the future. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all this info, it's made me feel a lot more confident about what I'm dealing with and what to expect from the repair. I'll probably be looking at similar costs to what you paid, which isn't great but at least it's not a surprise now. Thanks again for all your help!
