BMW 4 Series Light Switch Failure, Fixed or Faulty?
Summary of the thread
A 2023 BMW 4 Series owner is experiencing unresponsive light controls with the low beam stuck on, suspecting a faulty light switch. A fellow BMW owner shared a similar experience with a previous model, where the issue was due to a faulty connection in the wiring harness near the light switch module. The solution involved replacing cables and cleaning connections, which resolved the problem. It was suggested to check for corrosion on connectors and consider warranty coverage for potential repairs.

Thanks for sharing that experience! My car's only got 41959 KM on it since my last service, so I'm a bit surprised to face electrical issues this early. Come to think of it, I've noticed the dashboard lights occasionally dimming for a split second, but didn't think much of it until now. Definitely sounds like I might be dealing with something similar to what you had. Might have to get those connections checked out. Did your mechanic mention how long the repair typically takes?

Hey again! Yeah, that dimming dashboard is exactly what I experienced before the whole lighting system started acting up. With my 2021 2 Series, it started around 45000 KM, so pretty close to your mileage actually. The repair itself wasn't too time-consuming, my mechanic sorted it out in about 2-3 hours. Most of that time was spent diagnosing and accessing the wiring harness, as they had to remove some panels to get to it. The actual fixing part was pretty quick once they identified the problem. Just a heads up though, when they were working on mine, they found some slight corrosion on the connectors, which they cleaned up while they were at it. Might be worth asking them to check yours for that too. It's not a common issue with these models, but better safe than sorry. By the way, since your car is newer than mine, it might still be under warranty. Have you considered taking it to the dealer? They might cover it completely. Mine was just out of warranty when this happened, hence the regular workshop visit. Let me know how it goes! Always happy to share experiences with fellow BMW owners.

Thanks for all that detailed info! Yeah, I think I'll definitely get it checked out soon, especially after hearing about your similar experience. Good call about the warranty, I actually checked right after reading your message, and looks like I've still got about 8 months left on mine. Think I'll give the dealer a call tomorrow morning and see what they say. The 2-3 hour repair time doesn't sound too bad either. Interesting point about the corrosion, that's something I'll make sure to mention when I take it in. Honestly, it's a relief to hear I'm not the only one who's dealt with this. Was starting to worry it might be something major, but sounds like it's a relatively straightforward fix. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all this info, definitely helped put my mind at ease about the whole situation!

Hey there! I have some experience with BMWs since I own a 2021 BMW 2 Series (previously had a 3 Series too). Had a similar issue where my lights were stuck on and controls weren't working. After dealing with this headache, I took it to my regular workshop. Turned out it was just a faulty connection in the wiring harness near the light switch module. The mechanic had to replace some cables and clean the connections, cost me around 95 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Quick question though, have you noticed any other electrical issues? Like flickering lights or problems with other switches? This could help pinpoint if it's isolated to just the light switch or part of a bigger electrical problem. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more details.
