BMW 4 Series Wiper System Complete Failure Fix Needed

Hi everyone! I'm having issues with my 2016 BMW 4 Series. The windshield wipers stopped working completely, both manual and auto functions are dead. Already got an error code from diagnostics and suspect it might be the wiper relay. Has anyone dealt with similar wiper problems? What did your mechanic find and how was it fixed? Looking for real experiences before heading to the workshop.

Hey there! I can relate, had a similar issue with my 2014 BMW 3 Series about a year ago. I have some basic experience working on cars, mostly DIY maintenance stuff. My wipers also completely stopped working one day. Took it to my regular workshop and turned out it was just a loose connection in the wiring harness leading to the wiper motor. The cable had come loose due to vibration over time. The mechanic had to remove some trim pieces to access and reconnect it properly. Total bill was 95 Euro, mostly labor costs. Before you head to the shop, can you share what error code you got from diagnostics? Also, when did this start happening? Does it make any noise when you try to activate the wipers? This would help narrow down if you're dealing with the same issue I had or something else.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I got error code 927A during diagnostics. Mine just stopped working suddenly last week without any warning signs, no strange noises or intermittent issues before that. When I try to activate them, there's absolutely no response or sound. Last service was about 2 months ago and everything was working fine then. My car's at 101840 KM now so I'm wondering if it's just age-related wear and tear. Going to take it to the shop tomorrow but wanted to check if anyone else had similar symptoms before I potentially get overcharged for a simple fix like yours.

Hey again! The symptoms you're describing with error code 927A actually sound a bit different from what I experienced with my BMW. While mine was a loose connection, yours showing no response at all and that specific error code makes me think it could be more than just a wiring issue. Just to share my further experience, after that initial wiper problem I mentioned, I actually had another wiper-related issue about 6 months later. That time, it turned out to be a faulty rain sensor module, which caused both the automatic and manual functions to fail completely, similar to what you're describing. The complete silence when trying to activate them was exactly the same. Since your car's around the same age as mine was when this happened (mine was at about 98000 KM), it might be worth having them check the rain sensor module along with the wiring. The repair for the rain sensor ended up costing more than my first wiper issue, but at least it solved the problem permanently. Keep us posted on what the mechanic finds. Really curious to know if it's the same issue I had with the rain sensor or something else entirely. These BMWs can be tricky with electrical problems sometimes!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! That's really helpful info about the rain sensor module, I hadn't even considered that could be the culprit. You're right that the symptoms do sound pretty similar to what you experienced the second time around. I'm actually glad you mentioned this because now I can specifically ask the mechanic to check the rain sensor module tomorrow. The mileage similarity is interesting too, makes sense these parts might start failing around the same time. I was initially worried about the costs, but knowing it could be something that needs proper fixing rather than a quick patch job helps me mentally prepare for the bill. Better to get it done right than have to deal with it again in a few months. I'll definitely update once I get it checked out. Really appreciate you taking the time to share both your experiences. It's so helpful to hear from someone who's actually dealt with similar issues rather than just reading unusual stuff online.
