BMW 5 Series (model year 2004) - suspected DISA valve

Hello everyone! My BMW 5 Series (built in 2004, gasoline engine) has been doing strange things recently. It no longer pulls properly, the engine runs unevenly and jerks when accelerating. From time to time it even stalls when idling. The check engine light is on and I suspect that the DISA valve is not being activated correctly. Have any of you had similar problems and been able to get it fixed at a garage? I would be delighted if you could share your experiences with me, especially how the fault was rectified. Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2004 BMW 5 Series is experiencing issues such as poor acceleration, uneven engine performance, stalling at idle, and an illuminated check engine light. The suspected cause is a malfunctioning DISA valve, possibly due to a defective cable. A similar issue in a BMW 3 Series was resolved by replacing a faulty DISA valve cable. It is advised to have the vehicle inspected at a garage to confirm the diagnosis and address any additional faults.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my BMW 3 Series (2002 model, also gasoline engine). I have little experience with cars, but decided to have it checked at my garage. There it turned out that the cable from the DISA valve was defective. The repair cost me 155 euros, so it's nothing major. Good luck

Hey, thanks for your quick reply and for sharing your experience with me. So the last time I went to the garage for an inspection was about 6 months ago. The cable thing sounds plausible, I only suspected the DISA valve itself so far. I'll definitely take it to the garage this week and report back here what I find. Thanks again!

Hey, according to my garage, a defective DISA valve could be the cause, but it could also be several smaller faults that are causing the symptoms together. If it's been a while since your last service, it might be time to have your car thoroughly checked again. Fingers crossed that it's nothing major and that it's within budget ;)
