BMW 6 Air Intake Issues Causing Poor Performance

Seeking advice, Air intake problems on 2005 BMW 6? Having trouble with my 2005 BMW 6 (190k km, gasoline engine). The car struggles with acceleration, jerks a lot, and drinks way more fuel than usual. There's also this annoying hissing sound when I step on the gas. Engine light is on, and it just failed emissions. Last mechanic visit was a disaster, so I'm thinking it might be an air intake leak. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Any recommendations for getting this fixed? Would appreciate hearing about repair costs and experiences.

I had almost identical issues with my 2008 BMW 3 Series last month. The hissing sound and poor acceleration were exactly what I experienced. Turned out the intake boot (the rubber hose connecting the mass airflow sensor to the throttle body) had cracked. It was causing a major vacuum leak, which explained both the hissing and the rich fuel mixture. Got it diagnosed at my regular garage after my usual mechanic spotted it during a visual inspection. The fix wasn't particularly complex, just needed the intake boot replaced and the system cleaned. It wasn't a serious mechanical issue, but it definitely needed prompt attention to prevent further problems. The car's been running like new since the repair, no more hissing, normal fuel consumption, and smooth acceleration. Based on your symptoms, I'd bet you're dealing with the same problem. Just make sure whoever checks it knows BMWs well, these intake systems can be tricky to diagnose if you're not familiar with them.
