Thanks for sharing your experience! My 6er is at 191017 KM and had its last service two months ago. I do hear a faint clicking sound when pressing the button, but nothing else happens. I've got the 635i model. Interesting that you had a similar issue with your 5 series. That repair cost doesn't sound too bad actually, was worried it might be way more expensive. Did your mechanic source an original BMW motor or did they use an aftermarket part? Really appreciate your help with this!

Hey again! Glad to help further. That clicking sound you're hearing is exactly what I experienced with my 5 series before getting it fixed. Mine was around 185000 KM when the issue occurred, so pretty similar mileage to yours. In my case, we went with an original BMW motor because my mechanic advised it would be more reliable in the long run. The aftermarket options were about 100 Euro cheaper, but I didn't want to risk having to do the job twice. The BMW part has been working flawlessly for the past two years now. That clicking sound usually means the motor is trying to work but can't move the mechanism. On my car, they also had to clean out some debris that had gotten stuck in the tracks while they were in there, which wasn't an extra charge. One thing I forgot to mention, before replacing the motor, my mechanic tried resetting the system by disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes, but that didn't solve the issue. Might be worth trying that first though, just in case you get lucky! Have you noticed any other electrical issues? My power windows were occasionally acting up before the sunblind failed, though that turned out to be unrelated.

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! That's really helpful to know about going with the original BMW part, I think I'll do the same. Better to fix it properly once than have to deal with it again later. Good point about the battery reset too, I'll definitely try that before taking it to the shop. Actually, now that you mention electrical issues, my power windows have been a bit sluggish lately, especially the driver's side. But maybe that's just a coincidence like in your case. I'll make sure to mention it to my mechanic though when I take it in. Think I'll book it in for next week and get this sorted. Your experience has made me feel much better about the whole thing, was honestly expecting a much bigger repair bill! I'll update the forum once it's fixed in case anyone else runs into the same problem. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out with this!

Hi there! I have some experience working on cars and had a very similar issue with my 2008 BMW 5 Series. Like you, my rear sunblind completely stopped working one day. After taking it to my trusted workshop, they diagnosed a faulty sunblind motor. The repair involved replacing the entire motor unit, took them about 2-3 hours to complete. Total cost was around 330 Euro, including parts and labor. Before proceeding with any repairs, could you tell me if you hear any noise when trying to operate the sunblind? Also, which 6 Series variant do you have exactly? This would help me share more specific details about the repair process based on my experience with the 5 Series. Hope this helps as a starting point. Keep us posted!
