Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! I'm dealing with the exact same symptoms in my car now. Just wondering, how much did you end up paying for the glow plug replacement and module reset? Also, have you had any other issues with the heating system since getting it fixed? Would be really helpful to know what I might be looking at cost-wise and if it's actually a long-term solution.

Hey there! Just wanted to update you on my experience, I went ahead and got it fixed at the shop and it cost me 440 € for the glow plug replacement and system reset. Money well spent if you ask me! The heating system has been working like a charm since then, absolutely no issues whatsoever. The mechanic did a thorough job diagnosing it and confirmed it was definitely the faulty glow plug causing all the trouble, just as I suspected. Once they replaced it and reset everything, the auxiliary heater fired up perfectly. I've been using it regularly this winter without any problems. I'd say it's definitely a long-term solution, my 5 Series has been running smooth for months now. The peace of mind was worth every penny, especially during these colder months. If you're experiencing the same symptoms, I'd really recommend getting it checked out. Better to fix it now than risk more expensive damage down the line. Hope this helps with your decision!

Thanks everyone for your input! Just wanted to follow up and let you know what happened with my BMW. Finally got the courage to visit a new mechanic, and I'm glad I did! The diagnostic showed it was indeed a faulty glow plug, just like mentioned. Got it fixed last week, parts and labor came to around 460 €, slightly more than what paid but still reasonable. The mechanic was really thorough and took time to explain everything. The best part? My parking heater is working perfectly now! Such a relief to have heat again, especially since I need to warm up the car early in the morning. The new mechanic even did a full system check and cleaned out some debris that could've caused problems later. Really appreciate all the advice, helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it sorted. Sometimes you just need that push to try a new mechanic, and in this case, it definitely paid off!

I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW 5 Series diesel last winter. Initially, the parking heater would work intermittently, then completely stopped. Turned out one of the glow plugs was defective, and it was triggering a system shutdown for safety. The repair wasn't too complex once properly diagnosed. In my case, they had to replace the faulty glow plug and reset the control module. It wasn't a major repair, but it needed immediate attention because running the system with a bad glow plug could potentially damage other components. Have you checked if there's any fuel in the auxiliary heater's tank? Sometimes it's just that simple. If not, I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed at a workshop that specializes in BMW diesels, the auxiliary heating system is quite specific and needs someone who knows what they're doing.
