Thanks for sharing your experience! My 8 Series just hit 65174 KM and had its latest service a couple months ago. Good to know it might just be a loose connection, that's way better than having to replace the entire mechanism! For me, the issue seems pretty unusual actually. It happens regardless of weather or how long the car's been parked. I'll definitely have my mechanic check the cables first before jumping to more expensive fixes. Appreciate the tip!

Hey again! Thanks for sharing those extra details about your 8 Series. You know what's interesting, when I had that issue with my 6 Series, I initially thought it was totally unusual too. But after getting it fixed, I remembered there were subtle signs I'd missed before the problem got really obvious. Just a heads up based on my experience, while the loose connection was the culprit in my case, these convertible top issues can be tricky. When my mechanic was working on it, he actually found that the wiring near the connection point had some minor wear too. Not bad enough to need replacement, but something to keep an eye on. Since your mileage is pretty similar to what mine was when I had the issue (I was around 70,000 KM), it might be worth having them do a full inspection of the convertible top system while they're at it. My mechanic did that for me, and it gave me peace of mind knowing everything else was in good shape. Let us know what your mechanic finds! Always curious to hear how these things turn out, especially since we're dealing with similar models. These convertibles are fantastic when everything's working right!

Thanks so much for all that detailed feedback! You're absolutely right about getting a full inspection while they're checking the connections. Better to catch any potential issues early than wait for something major to go wrong. Actually, now that you mention subtle signs, I'm starting to remember the top was occasionally making a slightly different sound when operating, even before the obvious problems started. I'll definitely mention this to my mechanic too. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's given me a good starting point and saved me from jumping to worst-case scenarios. I'll schedule an appointment with my mechanic tomorrow and have them check those connections first. Will update the forum once I know what's actually causing the problem. Thanks again for the help!

Hi there! I have some experience working on BMWs, and I actually faced a pretty similar issue with my 2020 BMW 6 Series diesel. Also had problems with a 4 Series previously. When my convertible top started acting up like yours (stopping mid-way, error messages), I took it to my regular workshop. Turned out it was just a loose connection in one of the cables. The mechanic found and fixed the faulty plug connection in about an hour, cost me 95 Euro total. The symptom was exactly like yours, unusual stops and that annoying flashing red LED. Could you share your car's mileage and whether you've noticed any specific patterns when the issue occurs? Like does it happen more often when it's cold or after the car's been sitting for a while? This info would help me give you more specific advice.
